MEET SKYLAR 

This project is inspired by our son, Skylar.  There were serious medical complications at birth which resulted in an emergency helicopter transport for Sky and dad.  Doctors and nurses worked around the clock, our goal was simply survival at that time.  After blood transfusions, life saving procedures and surgery, we finally came home after 45 days in the NICU. Once at home, we began our therapy journey.  We have tried virtually every therapy under the sun. Skylar participates in seven therapies each week since he was two months old. His therapy regimen includes: early intervention, craniosacral therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy (he doesn’t eat much by mouth, he feeds via g tube), CME, equine therapy and his favorite, surf therapy.  Doctors and nurses refer to Sky as a medical miracle.  Neurologists thought he would never walk, Sky proved them wrong.  Skylar’s determination and motivation to improve impressed even his biggest skeptics.  His disability does not define who he is, but it does limit what he can do physically.  Skylar is our inspiration. He is the reason why we advocate.  Our little boy has overcome many obstacles and challenges in life.  Now it’s time to level the playing field and create an inclusive play space for ALL children to enjoy.  Every child deserves the right to play.
